About the Author
Dennis Blair served as the U.S. director of national intelligence 2009–10. A Rhodes Scholar, Blair spent a career in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 2002 as the commander in chief, U.S. Pacific Command.

While the readership is somewhat limited to those who have an interest in the relationship between the military and leaders of developing nations, ADM Blair provides fascinating insight into how democratic countries such as the U.S. can influence the direction of these countries and their leaders and how we can affect their future growth in a positive manner. Case studies of countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines provides a glimpse of what we have done right in an era where we are too quick to forget the appeal that America still possesses. This book is an ideal text for anyone seeking to understand how we can still hold high our standards and hope that they will be a beacon for others to follow. Blair is uniquely qualified to address these issues.
